Donna Kelce Starts Planning How to Get to Jason and Travis’ Games in April: ‘It’s Kind of Hard’
“I root for both of them no matter what,” the mother of two said, while talking to PEOPLE about her partnership with the NFL’s official wine sponsor, Barefoot Wine
For Donna Kelce, figuring out how to watch her sons play football is a sport in itself!
Travis and Jason Kelce’s mom says that she starts planning months before each season starts so that she can attend the NFL stars’ games.
“It’s kind of hard. Well, I root for both of them no matter what,” she shares, while talking to PEOPLE about her partnership with the NFL’s official wine sponsor, Barefoot Wine. “I look in April and see what their schedule is and decide what I’m going to do.”
And she’s not opposed to traveling long distances to make it happen.
“If there’s any games outside of the country, I definitely want to try to go to those,” she says. “And if they happen to be home on the same day, then I just have to flip a coin and I try to get to eight games each, every year. So that’s kind of the way I handle it.”
With Jason playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and Travis with the Kansas City Chiefs, that means lots of travel — but Donna wouldn’t have it any other way.
The mother of two reveals, however, that dating back to when her boys played in college, she has not been able to spend the holidays in her own home.
“Ever since they were in college, we’ve always been on the road for Thanksgiving,” she says. “It’s either been in Cincinnati when they were at the University of Cincinnati or we’re at one of their homes. So I’ve never been in my own home cooking for Christmas or for holidays. I mean that’s the life of being a mom for the NFL. It’s always work so you have to kind of go where they are.”
And where does that leave her for this Thanksgiving?
“That’s a good question,” she says. “I’m not quite sure what Travis’ plans are, but I do know that I’ll be in Philly because he has a game that Sunday in Philadelphia [a rematch of the Super Bowl game for both of her sons], so I definitely will be there for that game.”
And on the off chance there could be another special female guest at the Kelce table this year, Donna is ready for it.
“It’s been a ride. That’s for sure,” she says about her own increased notoriety amid Travis and Taylor Swift’s new romance. “It’s a little different. Sometimes I feel I’m on some kind of a different planet. I’m like, ‘What has my life become?’
She adds, “It’s kind of fun, though. It is. It’s fun being recognized. Most everyone is pretty respectful and very positive. Good thing is, my boys do some great stuff on the field, so they’re pretty happy about it.”
